The Nest - Our 2 Year Old Provision
Supporting every child to Thrive by Five

We are thrilled to announce the expansion of our current Early Years Unit with the opening of our exciting new provision for 2-3 year olds - The Nest.

The Nest is designed to provide a rich and stimulating environment both indoors and outdoors, supporting children’s learning through play and exploration. Inside, children have access to a variety of age-appropriate resources that encourage curiosity, creativity, and early communication skills, such as sensory activities, imaginative play areas, and construction materials. Outdoors, our safe and engaging space offers opportunities for physical development, problem-solving, and social interaction through climbing, digging, and exploring nature. Both environments are carefully planned to allow children to make choices, follow their interests, and develop their independence, confidence, and curiosity, laying the foundations for lifelong learning.

This development has been made possible thanks to successful funding through the School-Based Nursery Grant. Our 2 year old provision offers both 15 or 30 hours of high-quality childcare term time only for eligible families, providing a nurturing, stimulating environment designed to support early learning and development. This expansion reflects our ongoing commitment to supporting children and families in our community from the very start of their educational journey.

Our Curriculum

Our 2–3 year old curriculum is carefully planned and sequenced to support the unique needs of our youngest learners, with a strong emphasis on communication and language development. Learning is based around high-quality core texts, which provide rich opportunities for storytelling, singing, discussion, and vocabulary development. We carefully select tier 1 vocabulary to introduce and reinforce key words, helping children build a strong foundation in language and understanding. Through engaging, meaningful experiences, our curriculum ensures that even our youngest children are supported to explore, communicate, and make connections as they begin their learning journey.

Our Environment

Our 2-year-old environment is a safe, nurturing space where every child feels valued and supported. The room is carefully set up with resources and areas designed to promote communication and language development. Children can explore through role play, craft, painting, cosy storytelling corners, music and movement, and construction play, all thoughtfully planned to be purposeful and engaging. Every activity is designed to encourage conversation, vocabulary growth, and confidence in expressing ideas, providing a strong foundation for learning and discovery from the very start of their Early Years journey.

The Nest has its own safe and secure outdoor area, carefully designed to support children’s learning, exploration, and physical development. Here, our youngest learners can enjoy a wide range of activities including sand and water play, bikes, mud kitchen, painting, construction, and a small stage for imaginative play. The outdoor environment provides rich, hands-on opportunities for children to explore, experiment, and develop their gross motor skills, creativity, and problem-solving abilities, all in a safe and nurturing space that complements their indoor learning.

Our Adults

Our 2-year-old room, The Nest, is led by our experienced room leaders, Kim and Jenny. Both are highly skilled practitioners who work closely with families to support and advise on every child’s development. As key workers, they build strong, trusting relationships with each child and their family, taking responsibility for their care and learning. Kim and Jenny also carry out 2-year-old progress checks, ensuring that each child’s development is closely monitored and supported, so that every child can thrive in a safe, nurturing, and engaging environment.

Parents and Families

We begin every child’s Early Years journey with a home visit, giving us the opportunity to build strong, trusting relationships with children and families from the very start. Our team works closely with outside agencies when needed to support each child’s learning and development, continually assessing progress and providing parents with clear, supportive feedback and next steps. We use Tapestry to record and monitor daily care, including food, nappy changes, and sleep, as well as to share learning through photos, videos, and assessment points such as baseline checks. We also host Stay and Play events, allowing families to engage with the setting, strengthen relationships, and celebrate their child’s learning and development alongside our team.
